For the Parents

At Home & School Tutoring, we want parents to be informed about procedures and policies, as well as kept up-to-date with any special announcements. You will find most of our procedures and policies detailed in the sections below or our FAQs. We will be using Brightwheel, email, and our private Facebook group for parent communication throughout the year.

Safety First

Safety is of utmost importance to us. We are not just teachers; we are mama bears too.  Your child will be safe under our care. Our policy is to have our main entry doors locked at all times. Any church visitors will go through the church office to enter and will be kept separate from our part of the building. No one is ever allowed in a classroom with our students without a background check. We will also be teaching our Safe Steps Plan for emergency situations to students the first week of attendance. This will include what to do in a medical emergency, fire safety, and intruder alert. We will review and practice our Safe Steps Plan a few times each semester. Additionally, all tutors/teachers are First Aid, AED, and CPR trained.

Arrival and Dismissal

Doors will open at 9:55am and students will go directly into their classroom to start their day. Parents will need to pull around to the back of the church to drop off students at the door. Please have your child stay in the vehicle until doors are opened. A car line may briefly form during morning drop-off.

Dismissal will begin at 1:55pm. Please remain in your vehicle in the car line at the back of the building while students are dismissed from the classrooms.

If you wish to come into the classroom to speak with the tutor, please park in the back parking lot and come in through our main door.

Dress Code

Clothing should always be play-friendly (appropriate for playground climbing or sitting on the floor in classroom play centers) as well as classroom-appropriate (no belly shirts, super-short shorts, etc.). No clothing with inappropriate language or depictions allowed. Hats, hoods, and face coverings are not permitted in the classroom. Always send jackets or coats in colder weather, as we do go outside daily. We strive for a learning community of respectful, curious, and kind students!

Attendance & Wellness

We strive to maintain a healthy environment within our pods. If a child has a fever, we ask that the child be kept home until he/she is fever free without medication. Also, if there are any severe respiratory or gastrointestinal issues occurring, we ask that the child be kept home until those symptoms have subsided. Please text or email your child’s teacher to give them a heads up about any absences. If a child becomes ill during the day, parents will be notified promptly and asked to pick up early. Tuition payments are still due in full regardless of attendance.

We believe a child’s immune system needs proper support to work its best. We want to encourage healthy dietary choices, physical activity, and plenty of fresh air. We will have outside play daily, weather permitting.

Snacks, Lunch, and Hydration

Help your kids take on their day by supplying them with healthy snacks and lunches each day. We ask that snacks and lunches be free of candy and high-sugar drinks. Refillable water bottles (with students’ names labeled) are recommended as a daily staple for student hydration.

For snacks, please provide a small food item that does not require utensils. Some great choices are granola bars, fresh fruit, yogurt sticks, cheese sticks, nuts, etc.

Weather Delays and Cancellation

In the event of severe weather, we will follow the closings of Jefferson County Public Schools. We will also keep parents updated through our Facebook page and text message announcements.
